Welcome from Barbara Gray, Assistant Commissioner

We have a clear mission for policing in London which is set out in our New Met for London plan.  This is a challenging time for policing and we must respond to this challenge to deliver an excellent service to communities across London.

To achieve our mission we need the support of great senior leaders and professional experts.  The Met’s legal team is the largest legal team in UK policing.

With a budget of over £4bn and a workforce of over 46,000 people, the Met is one of the largest employers in south east England.  We have scale and complexity.  We attract interest and high levels of scrutiny from many quarters.  We are always open for business – 24/7, 365 days a year.  We have a workforce that do extraordinary things on a daily basis, putting themselves in danger to protect others.

Our police staff choose to work in the Met because they are just as motivated and passionate about serving London’s communities as our warranted colleagues.  With so many opportunities for interesting work opening up as a result of the publication of A New Met for London, it is a genuinely interesting and exciting place to contribute to the strategy and strategic vision for a complex organisation.

As Chief Legal Officer you will work with all Management Board members and be a trusted adviser to the Commissioner.

You will be responsible for the performance of the legal services team and provide risk based legal and policy advice to Board.
